Remembering Chris Cornell

It’s been a terrible week for music junkies around the world after hearing the news about Chris Cornell. It was unexpected and horrifying hearing the news about the passing of a rock genius. Yes, this is a country music blog but things like this trumps…sorry for the pun…the regular posts. If you are a music fan, in general, you’ll truly miss hearing the voice of Chris Cornell.

I think the best way to celebrate his career is by showcasing it in a Riley Welch Blog style. I picked Cornell’s top 10 songs that he released by himself or bands he was in. Here they are:

  1. Temple Of The Dog – Hunger Strike
  2. Soundgarden – Rusty Cage
  3. Audioslave – Be Yourself
  4. Audioslave – Like A Stone
  5. Soundgarden – Black Hole Sun
  6. Audioslave – Cochise
  7. Audioslave – Doesn’t Remind Me
  8. Audioslave – I Am The Highway
  9. Soundgarden – Spoonman
  10. Soundgarden – Burden In My Hand

Cornell’s voice was something else, one of that stops you right in your tracks to listen what he’s saying. Take the regular 90’s singer who wants to sound like Eddie Vedder…nothing against him he’s also another great. After Pearl Jam hit the scene, you notice bands trying to emulate them. Not Cornell, his voice was on the opposite side of the scale.

It’s sad to see him go but he will forever leave a legacy.

It shocked the whole music world. You can see the video down below that he was well respected.

Even George Strombo sent out a message via Facebook. “The worst feeling is posting a moment in time with someone who’s gone. Gone in such a sudden and tragic way. I was lucky enough to spend time with Chris Cornell over the years. Wanted to share this unarchived interview with you. He mattered. His music still does. Thank you for movement, Chris. #RIP” This video was attached to the post:

True artists like Cornell share a piece of their heart in a song. We can all say that he did more than that without a doubt. From one music lover to another…thank you Chris for the great years, you’ll be greatly missed.

What’s your favorite song by Chris Cornell? What did his music do for you?
